What say you oppo? Is the car worth it, or did the build choices lower the value?

CP. So much CP.

RM sold an all original car for $242k last summer. Id say NP

But that was an actual GT-R...this is modified 2000GT. That's like comparing a resto mod base Camaro to a Yenko or COPO car.

Considering that the car isn't a real GT-R and is far from stock, that's all the money. A real GT-R went for well over $200k at Monterey last year.

I was a bit skeptical about the price...
But it is a beautiful car. The blue is fantastic.
However, losing the cross-flow DOHC S20 Prince inline-6 engine, and not being an RB-series to replace it... I can't condone it.
This car is much nicer and classier, and FAR rarer than to deserve a turbo-I4, no matter how good the Turbo I4 is.
If it were a Bluebird 510 Coupe... with all of the same build decisions... it would be a fantastic 510.
This is a Skyline, though. No I-6, no sale. It would be like putting an SR20DET I-4 in a Fairlady Z 432. 'Just not cricket' as the british might say.

That's exactly it...can a modded 2000GT be in that price category...
I'm sure they have at least that in it...but I wonder if there is a buyer out there that would want it.

oh ok, I didn't really read the listing, just drooled on the pictures :)
That's still a $167k price difference. What do the base cars go for anyway?

This one wasn't a real GT-R, so no S20 to lose. It looks like it was a base model 2000GT to start with.
I totally agree, the SR20 just doesn't fit the car. I can't understand why they didn't go RB26???

$25-50k depending on condition...it truly is an impressive build. I drooled a little too.

S20, or L-series, or an RB26DE... this car deserves a butter-smooth I6 engine, preferably naturally aspirated with 3 side-draft carbs, or individual throttle body fuel injection, and a nice, even torque curve, and a narrow-firing-order exhaust note.
Bonkers horsepower out of a turbocharged I4 is fun, but it isn't as civilized as this car deserves. laaaaaaag-then-BOOOOOST is not smooth, even if it is exciting.

Totally agree. My goto would be RB26 with triple Webers. Or at least an RB26 ITB swap ala-Rocky Auto.
That's why we went triple Weber 2JZ for our Crown. If we had to ditch the SOHC I-6, we at least had to do right by the car and give it a Toyota plant that fit it's age and personality.

Just a heads up this is not a 2000GT .. If it was it would be the nicest price of all time.
This is a 2000GT

But it is though..it's a Skyline 2000GT model, not a Skyline GT-R

They are pretty rare as a body but not worth it without the motor, its just not real. I can make my Z into a 432R clone but with no Hakosuka motor etc. its a poser.

I'm sure somebody will, though I personally don't care for the color or wheel size. I'd also prefer an RB20 or 25, to keep it a 6. The engines are cheap enough, but to each their own. I also think smaller wheels and a more original color would give it a better chance of making that money. But, Hakosuka coupes are hard enough to find in any trim, and the GT-Rs increasing value is pulling them all up by the bootstraps, just as the early 911s have pulled up later SCs & Carreras, so it may make that amount.

Chassis still has a lot of value despite the mods. NP.

You forget. These cars in non-gtr form with L20s are still worth this astronomical amount of money.

I've been told by my importer a 2000GT is worth a minimum of $50k.
![]() 02/13/2015 at 14:59 |

For a car like this I would do a RB30DE n/a build. RB26 with triple webers would be a significantly out there build that you might as well do a 26/30 n/a build on top of it.

It depends on the car...$50k is definitely not the 'minimum'. You could pay more or less for sure. For example this car would be about $38k if I was importing it for a customer:

There's definitely a lot of value there. I'm sure he has more than the ask in it...I guess it's more about did he harm the value with the SR20 or not. Or is there another person out there besides himself that would want that exact car. If you like everything but the motor, I think it's quite likely someone would do better to do their own build rather than purchase that and swap in a different motor.

Yea you know what your totally correct on this one..
![]() 02/13/2015 at 16:56 |

NP. Why? Because
1- Compared to prices of similar Skylines recently, and given that this is a nice resto, it's not a bad price
2- I love it and am willing to overpay if there's something I really, really want
![]() 02/13/2015 at 17:13 |

I think that's what it comes down to. You have to really really want it. It's obviously a very nice car and a quality build. I just wanted to see what everyones opinions were. The engine choice it seems turns some people off immediately, while others don't care.

nice price!!
SO MUCH nice price!

Not sure if you know, but this is Daryl of Kaizo's car. It's incredibly clean, but with Rotas and an SR20 rather than an RB, I'd vote CP.

I didn't know that...guess that explains the motor choice!

Although I've had a friend who knows him personally tell me that he's actually a really nice guy. I know he frequented C&C Irvine when it was around
